Imagine walking into your office and discovering a secret portal that leads to the brain of John Malkovich. That is the premise of Being John Malkovich, the movie that changed my life.
I remember when I first discovered Being John Malkovich. It was briefly mentioned on a TV show, and I was immediately interested in learning more about it. I searched the film on YouTube and found its brilliantly outrageous trailer. I became obsessed with the trailer and watched over and over and over again. I sent it to my friends, showed my siblings, and basically told anybody who would listen about it. If you’ve never seen the trailer before, here it is, and trust me, you’re in for a treat.
A week later I was finally able to rent Being John Malkovich. My expectations were high, but they were definitely met and even exceeded.
Every little thing about Being John Malkovich is amazing. It stars John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, Catherine Keener, and John Malkovich; all of whom were able to portray these wacky and surreal characters very realistically. It was also brilliantly written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Spike Jonze with cinematography by Lance Acord.
Even though it’s obvious that I greatly enjoyed Being John Malkovich, you might be wondering, how did it change your life? Well, Being John Malkovich was able open my eyes to a new category of films. Not all movies have to be normal and predictable; some are outrageous and original, and filled with unexpected surprises.
Another thing Being John Malkovich did was it introduced me one of the greatest screenwriters, Charlie Kaufman. Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are three of my favourite movies, and they were all written by Charlie Kaufman. His films are all very surreal and inventive, and they are never what you would expect.
Being John Malkovich is a movie that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetimes. It is filled with laughter, insanity, and is always a wild ride.
